MAKING LEMONADE OUT OF LIFE'S LEMONS

The closing of Weist Baron Studios in January came as quite a shock, not only to the acting students but to the instructors as well. Making lemonade out of life's lemons is what film & theater people customarily do; hence, the partnership of actor Tod Engle and director Frank S. Petrilli.

No truer "Odd Couple" can there be: Petrilli & Engle refer to themsleves as the "Darstardly Duo." Petrilli readily admits his character of 'Muttley' to Engle's 'Dastardly.' All kidding aside, their "Flying Machine" took up residence at the Ted Bardy Studio at 150 W 28th Street, in Chelsea this February, and it has been a steady flight above the weather ever since.

While Engle offers the "grist" of TV Commercial technique, Petrilli offers the "grit" of Acting for the Camera. Their weekly intensives are truly iin-depth and strong preparation in a highly competeitve, but rewarding field for the actor.

Their sessions are always open to auditors. Please contact them to make arrangements to audit or answer any questions about classes, coaching or fees.

ACTORS SHINE IN INDEPENDENT FILM SHOWCASE

In the midst of SantaCon, holiday shoppers and on the last consecutive date in our lifetime, on Saturday, December 13th, 2014, two independent films by director and Weist Barron instructor Frank S. Petrilli, screened in a three independent Film Showcase, generated from the PollyGrind Film Festival, at Weist Barron. Thirty plus cast, crew, friends and associates gathered at Weist Barron’s Studio One to enjoy and support the Showcase of independent films by DERELECT Films and Pachamana Films.

Topping the list was PLAY HOOKY, the 2012 award winning original found film, distributed by Wild Eye Releasing, under the “PollyGrind Presents” sub-label, showcasing the talents of Weist Barron alumni Kim Kleemichen, Becky Byers, Theresa Davis, Wanda Nixon, Jessica DiGirolamo, Jordan Elizabeth Gelber and Bob Waters.

It was followed by its recently completed sequel: the psychological drama, CATATONIA, showcasing, in a reprise of their original roles, Kim Kleemichen, Becky Byers, Jessica DiGirolamo and Bob Waters, but also including additional Weist Barron alumni Vinny Bernardo, Chris Paul Kelly, Pamela Rose Cichy, Katie Hodges, Despina Victory, Mark O’Brien, Diane Pickett and Heather Cooksey.

According to Weist Barron alumni Jordan Elizabeth Gelber, “It’s exciting to watch both films together and see the work of other actors that were in my classes. It’s also awesome to meet fellow actors I’ve never met before. To have the Film Showcase to interact and network with was awesome.” Information on both films can be found on the IMDB and Facebook.

More Weist Barron alumni, Ray Hernandez, Paola Tonini, Natasha Repass, Frank Logan, Melissa Alanna, Colleen Church and Gina Gallagher have already been cast in the psychological crime/drama, CAL·12, another independent film that’s in production by Frank Petrilli and his partners at DERELICT Films.  CAL·12 will hopefully be his first SAG production (permission pending) which would open the casting doors to SAG actors. He also hopes to make this Holly Jolly SantaCon Film Showcase an annual event.
